Challenge
Solution
During the preliminary data gathering stage, we conducted individual interviews and Hogan personality assessments. We asked all participants to complete a survey to gain insight into how well they thought their team was functioning. The survey showed that there were opportunities to improve trust, accountability, and authentic communication within the team. We presented a consolidated report on the team’s strengths and opportunities, and then worked with the group to co-create 3 focus areas for our work together. Focus areas were:
- Improve trust and communication
- Get to know each other on a deeper, more personal level
- Gain insight into individual working styles
We recommended a series of brief workshops, which were conducted virtually due to Covid restrictions. During the workshops, we created a safe environment and set up activities which supported team members to talk about themselves and practice being vulnerable with each other. All were given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to respectfully listen to one other. This work created a strong foundation of psychological safety across the team, which enabled exploration of the existing trust and power issues through robust dialogue.
